Documents

I choose a manual of an electronic Drum Pad from the 80’s, in this manual they have the information of the artifact, they explain how it works, and how you can improve the sounds that you can create with that instrument. In this manual you have diagrams, technical descriptions, contact information, etc. I think that this documentation is really excellent organized. This manual also comes in different languages which makes more comprehensible for more people from different countries. I think that when some information has to be documented, it needs to be clear, well organized and must be explained in a manner easy to understand.

Reading

After a few weeks in class developing and doing research to find information that will be use to support my ideas, we are now in the process of developing and supporting the general idea of the paper. Some of the most important parts at the beginning of this process were to keep a strong goal orientation, have a purpose and define the research question. Now we have to start working on building the structure and the bases for our draft paper; it’s recommended to do an outline, to do an introduction, develop and support the idea, and have a conclusion. The paragraphs need to be well organized and always remember where you are going and to keep the balance when you are using your sources to support your ideas

New skills

In the past classes I have learned different skills to improve the way in which I used to do a research, for instance using the advance features in the internet have given me the option to narrow a specific topic or idea. In these couple weeks I also learned how to use library catalogs and how e- books can be useful and free sometimes. I also understand better how to use an article databases and it helped me to have a better understanding in the research process. I’m glad to know that after a few classes I have learned new skills in doing research,  and I’m pretty sure that such new skills will help me to improve in other classes and I’ll be able to find better and more narrow information for my projects.

Library Catalogs and E books

Finding the right book for your research projects, could be a difficult process if you don’t use the correct strategies or if you don’t narrow your topics. Library catalogs can help us to find an adequate book that will contribute with the information needed. In this process we have to be careful with details like: author, title, format, publisher, etc, this kind of specifications could be the key to obtain what we want. Electronic books are another tool in our research mission, the appropriate use or combinations of keywords can enrich our research, having better and more specific results. One of the benefits of e-books is that we can do our research in our own time and place, for instance we can be in the middle of the night and still looking for books in the internet.

Research Project

I have found some difficulties narrowing my topic; I wanted to talk about the importance and the procedure to do videography , when I started to look for information on the internet I found a lot information about this topic. Since I found so much information I couldn’t narrow my question and it created some confusion.  I’m trying to clarify my topic and the question, I think this is a big project and has different parts that need a solid basic idea. The ideas and suggestions that you can find in the book are good and I hope these tools will help me to develop better ideas for this project.

Managing Media

The gigantic information collected by the people that visit and work in the Dallas Museum of Art, contributed to have large collections of pictures, music, videos, etc. The people in the museum had problems finding the accurate data that a person needs, for this reason the directors hire a software company that can create a system that help to search the adequate information digitally since they had to do all this process with analog records.  DAM (digital asset management) contributed with the process of managing data, and reproducing such data. This entire process is not easy since the analog information has to be process and safe in formats that any person can have access to such information.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined as a transgression against our common intellectual values, carrying negative consequences for those who perform such bad action. Legally and educationally it could have negative consequences, since Plagiarism is consider a fraud. This theme is completely delicate since it has to concern with the ideas, words, proclamations, inspirations, etc, for these reasons and for our own intellectual convenience everyone should respect other people’s works or at least give some recognition of the people who wrote something. I think that schools, college or any type of institution has to clarify and explain the consequences of plagiarism, in order to create more conscience in people’s minds.

Politics of research

The world of research is support by a capitalism power that invests thousands of dollars in research for computers that help to safe enormous amounts of Data.

Technological Knowledge is a tool that is developing specially in the first world societies and is use in everyday routine. Countries like India that don’t have first world societies prefer to use a Gandhian economics, based on local self-reliance and simplicity in living.

Capitalist not only invest in computers but also in Biology and different types of sciences that will contribute to expand their power. We can’t forget that these technical inventions help the present and future generations.

The Web 2.0

The use of Web 2.0 has changed the way we research  on the internet, making this process easier and faster. Wikipedia is a great tool in the educational field since it has an infinite amount of information that is free for the public. I think that it is a great invention in the world of technology since it’s easy to create post and share any information that we need and that is accessible. Google is another tool that we all have use at least once in our life, it is a fast and precise method to research and to find unlimited information on the web.

Brief History of Media

The reading for Brief history of Media, introduces us to research strategies and the history of media. Badke points out that since Gutenberg’s invention of the printing press, information could be distributed to more people and information could be built on rather than passed down from generation to generation. I found it interesting to think that gatekeepers control what is published and I question whether publishers today favor profits rather than informative content. Later on journals, magazines, government and corporate documents, WWW and web 2.0 have provided us with content. While researching, it is useful for the researcher to look through books and their index, content chapters, preface and skim the book to take the information needed. Note taking is also useful and whether you summarize, quote or paraphrase depends on the researcher’s style. It is vital to give credit to the authors , so that you don’t plagiarize.
